Computed Tomography (CT scan)

The CT Department has a General Electric CT scanner and is equipped with the most modern operating system for all possible CT operations.

The experienced medical staff of the department as well as the well-trained technological and nursing staff ensure the high quality of services , safety and comfort of the patients.

Preparation instructions :

  • If you have previous imaging studies of the organ or area being examined, it is recommended that you provide them at the time of your appointment.
  • On the day of the examination, you must provide the most recent results performed up to 90 days before the examination
  • On the day of the examination you must provide a recent blood creatinine level measurement
  • Take the usual treatment according to your family doctor except:
  • Metformin (suspension 2 days before and for the next 2 days after the test) (αναστολή 2 ημέρες πριν και για τις επόμενες 2 ημέρες μετά την εξέταση)

Process

  • You will be asked to remove any clothing, jewelry, belts or other items from the area of the body where the CT scan will be performed that could interfere with the examination.
  • A vein catheter will be placed in your arm.
  • You will be asked to lie supine on a special radiology table, which will guide the body part being examined into a circular machine.
  • During the scans, the examination table is moved along the anteroposterior axis.
  • When prompted, you will be asked to remain completely still. After a few seconds, when the examination is finished, you will be informed.
  • If you are given a contrast agent by the phlebotomist, you may feel flushing, a metallic taste in your mouth, headache, itching, nausea and/or a tendency to vomit. These effects usually subside in a few minutes.
  • The procedure does not cause any pain.
  • At the end of the test, you can get dressed and leave the laboratory.
