Sleeve Gastrectomy

The Bariatric Surgery Department of Doctors' General Clinic is staffed by experienced obesity surgeons, certified by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).

The gastric sleeve is perhaps the most common bariatric surgery and is considered to be the best procedure for fighting obesity. As a procedure what is done is that it reduces the size of the stomach and helps to significantly reduce the amount of food.

How it's done:

1. Reduction of the stomach: During surgery, about 75-80% of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow, tubular portion (the "sleeve").
2. Change of appetite: The part of the stomach that is removed, the dome, contains the zone that produces the hormone γρελίνη, which is responsible for the appetite. Thus, patients after the operation feel that fullness comes on immediately and as a result they eat small amounts of food and inevitably lose the excess weight immediately.
3. After Gastric Sleeve does not change the course of the food in the digestive system, which makes the process less complicated and of course does not create problems in the absorption of nutrients and trace elements.

The operation is performed laparoscopically (with small holes) and the patient returns to activities immediately in the following days.
